Gay Pride Parade: Friday, September 29 from 7:30 pm. to 8:30 p.m.
If you would like to participate we are to meet each other on 14th St. on the north side of the street (we will be the 5th group east of 6th Ave.) Please wear a Catalina t-shirt if you have one or a Pride shirt. We need to be in our place between 6:30 and 7:00 pm.
This is a fun event – supporting our church status as a Reconciling Ministries Network church, and that we are supportive of our LGBTQ brothers and sisters – AND a nice walk on a nice evening. It’s very festive and casual. This is a short walk, under 1 mile. The map is below in the comments. Parking in the neighborhood is suggested, then walk to 14th St. and east from 6th Ave to find us! We hope to see many of you there!
Gay Pride Festival: Saturday, September 30 at Reid Park.
Pride Festival “Together We Rise” will be on Sat., Sept. 30, 2023 from noon – 10 p.m. at the Reid Park DeMeester performance center. Admission is $15 for students, seniors, civil servants and veterans at any time. The price for others is $15 in advance or $20.00 on the day. Tickets can be purchased at: https://www.tucsonpride.
World Communion Sunday: October 1
Holy Communion joins us in Christian unity. This sacrament invites us to focus on the holiness of communion with God and one another. On World Communion Sunday –United Methodists, in conjunction with other denominations and believers worldwide, participate in communion to recognize our unity in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.This universal and inclusive connection is the foundation of the special offering for World Communion Sunday.Your donations support racial and ethnic students in achieving their educational goals and transforming communities. Catalina Breakfast Club: October 7 at 8 am
All are welcome to join us for breakfast at 8am in Fellowship Hall. Our guest speaker will be Brenda Viner from the Tucson Festival of Books. Cost is $4/person.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Committee on Multicultural Growth is sponsoring a free concert of Mariachi music with Mariachi Aztlán de Pueblo High School. The concert will be on the church lawn on First Street on Sunday, October 15 at 4:00 p.m. Bring your family and friends and enjoy the concert along with some of Bella’s Gelato It will be for sale at the event. Come join us!

Packathon 2023: Sunday, October 22nd
The Packathon event returns again this year! We need 50 volunteers from Catalina to join with other faith–based communities for one afternoon to pack 50,000 meals for the underserved peoples of Tucson, southern Arizona, and northern Sonora. Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 22ndfor this incredible “come and do good and leave feeling good” event at the Muslim Community Center of Tucson. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks and can be matched with your physical capabilities. Join with other congregations in this charitable event, to be held at 1:00 PM at 5100 N. Kevy Place, near River Road and La Canada Boulevard. Stay tuned for further updates and details. Arizona 5-Day Academy for Spiritual Formation – October 22-27
The Academy for Spiritual Formation Council (a ministry of The Upper Room sponsored by the Desert Southwest Conference) presents “A Mile in My Shoes: Immigration and the Bible” – an immersion retreat at Redemptorist Renewal Center in Tucson for study and worship on Monday, Oct. 22, in preparation for 2 field trips. Participants choose 2 of 3: (1) cross border tour of Nogales, Sonora; (2) visit to a migrant shelter in Tucson; (3) tour of border wall on the Tohono O’odham Nation. Dia de Los Muertos Dinner and Remembrances: November 2nd
Join us in Catalina in Fellowship Hall on Thursday, November 2 at 5pm as we celebrate Dia de los Muertos. Please bring a picture of a friend or loved one, if you’d like, and bring a grateful spirit. Reservations are needed before October 31 by signing up at worship or contacting the church office.

Casa Alitas Welcome Center Clothing Drive
Catalina will be participating in a clothing drive for the Casa Alitas immigrants throughout the months of September and October. Bins have been set up in both the Sanctuary Narthex and the Church Office to collect your donations of clothing. All types of practical clothing are needed: children’s to adult’s sizes, warm weather or cold weather. As long as the clothing is clean and practical, it is needed. (Just no specialty items like prom dresses or high heels).

Also throughout the months of September and October, Catalina will be participating in a food drive for those who are living with hunger. All types of non-perishable food are needed, as long as the food has not been opened or has not expired.
Again, collection bins have been set up in the Sanctuary Narthex and in the Church Office.
KOINONIA CLASS FOR ADULTS
The KOINONIA CLASS for adults meets Sundays at 9:00 in Room E23.
Each week the group reads a chapter of a lively and thought-provoking book and builds relationships with other adults of all ages. Taught by Rev. Dr. Kirk Reed , the class aims to make learning fun. Everyone is welcome!

We meet at 8:45-9:45am, Room H-230. A desire to enrich your understanding and faith is the only requirement.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY
Our Women’s Bible Study for the fall will be: Better, a study of Hebrews by Jen Wilkin. We recently did her study of Genesis.
We will begin on Wednesday, September 6th for 10 weeks ending November 8th. We will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 in H230.

MEN’S BIBLE STUDY
Weekly Wednesday morning Bible Study meetings. We meet in Room E23 at 6:45 am.
For those whose schedules allow, we plan on going to breakfast at 8:00 am following Bible Study.
