Pastor Mike's Next Book Discussion

Pastor Mike will be leading a discussion on the book “Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life” by religious historian Karen Armstrong. Armstrong uses her insights from Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, and Confucianism to discuss the need for compassion in contemporary life. Additionally, she includes practices for helping to grow our compassion for one another. The book discussion will begin on Sunday, April 27th and Monday April 28th. The group discussions will be at 6 p.m. by Zoom on Sundays and 10 a.m. in person on Mondays. We’ll meet, with breaks, through July. If you are interested in joining, please let Pastor Mike know by emailing him at [email protected]. For book description, go to: https://tinyurl.com/577y4ezn.

An Easter Story: Hope, Surprise, and the Gift of Community - Reflections from our Lenten Queer Bible Study

Last month, we announced a Queer Bible Study. Word spread through our church and a single Facebook ad, drawing interest from 33 people—22 of them completely new to Catalina UMC. Over the past six weeks, a diverse group—averaging 12 to 14 participants each week, with 16 different folks cycling in and out, most attending regularly—gathered to study Scripture together.

Congrats to Blenman Elementary

Blenman is honored to receive recognition as a National Model PLC (Professional Learning Community) at Work School. This is a great accomplishment, as Blenman is the first, and only school in Tucson to receive this award. A Model PLC at Work School is
committed to the process as a professional learning community where our teachers collaborate in a continued cycle of inquiry and learning, collecting and analyzing data, and increasing student achievement. We have continued to show growth in our student learning after COVID, and we have maintained our B letter grade! Blenman will be recognized at the upcoming TUSD Governing Board meeting on April 29th.

Catalina United Methodist church will recognize the teachers and staff with an appreciation breakfast on May 5th. If you would like to contribute pastries, breads, fruit or juice, contact Deborah Williams at [email protected]. Thank you!
