Open Table - Week Two Recap
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our second preview of Open Table last night! We had 37 adults and 8 kids—another strong turnout and great feedback that continues to help us learn what works well in this model of "dinner church."
The overall energy in the room was a little quieter than last week, but the depth of conversation was just as strong. In the feedback, one theme stood out clearly: the best part of the night was the fellowship. Many of you named getting to know new people, hearing different perspectives, and the chance to sit at a table with others as your favorite part of the evening. This tells us that a dinner-church model is helping create real connection within our community.
Other highlights included serving each other Communion around the tables, as well as the music, and appreciation for the meal. Our kids also had a much improved experience this week—offering pizza and getting the food to them earlier, as well as giving them their own table made a big difference. One parent shared that during their nighttime prayers at home, their child said, “Thank you for letting me go to Open Table.”
We tested the use of a video to guide discussion. Even though we missed part of the segment we planned to show, most people still appreciated the content and the variety. This is something our team can refine in the future.
Food feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Words like delicious, excellent, and loved the pupusas showed up across the surveys. A few practical suggestions came in as well: add more fruit, reduce carbs, and consider offering a big tossed salad with toppings. Many noted that buffet-style service felt easier and helped the night run more smoothly.
When asked about future timing, most people said they were most likely to attend a weeknight Open Table, with some interest in a Sunday brunch-style option or a monthly Saturday gathering—especially helpful for families.
Overall, Open Table was a great experience! Thank you to everyone for being open to ideas, trying new things, and being willing to help us shape what Open Table can become. We appreciate the honest feedback, the flexibility, and the support.
