Open Table: A New Way to Worship at Catalina

As you know, Catalina UMC is piloting new worship experiences this fall. Our next preview is Open Table, modeled after the "Dinner Church" style of worship. It’s more conversational, more relational, and grounded in community.

Join us on Wednesdays, November 12 and 19, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall for this interactive, meal-based service. Worship will include music, Scripture, and prayer—followed by guided table discussions over a shared dinner provided by the church.
The name Open Table reflects our commitment to being intentionally inclusive of all people. Rooted in the earliest forms of Christian community, this model echoes how the Apostle Paul’s letters were first read aloud and then discussed around shared meals—the meal itself an extension of the Communion table.

Open Table is shaped by values of justice, hospitality, and belonging, responding to the growing needs in our community—especially among neighbors impacted by the federal government shutdown and recent SNAP cuts. As one act of solidarity and economic justice, we are working for the meal to be catered by a local neighbor who lacks consistent access to work due to fear of ICE. In this way, our gathering not only feeds our spirits, but also supports those living in the shadows of uncertainty and food insecurity.

Families are welcome! Children will begin worship with us and then participate in their own age-appropriate Open Table experience.
Consider this your personal invitation to join us for at least one Open Table. Your presence, support, and feedback are a gift as we explore new ways of being church together.

👉 Please register HERE so we can plan for food and seating.
This is a season of gratitude, and it feels especially important to build community together—with one another and with our neighbors.

This Sunday is Angel Tree Sunday

Today is Angel Tree Sunday (week #1 of 2) to choose an Angel Tag to purchase a Christmas Gift for a child of an inmate. Prison Fellowship Ministry is an organization that encourages inmates to fill out a form for their children to receive Christmas gifts from their parent in prison. Catalina has participated in this for 20+ years.
Caregivers of the children have been called to recommend specific gift suggestions for each child. These suggestions have been noted on each Angel Tree tag. Each child will receive a clothing gift (please ask for and include a gift receipt) AND a fun gift, (one tag for each) as specified by the caregiver. If you wish to participate, please choose a tag from the Christmas tree this Sunday (or next Sunday if there are any left!). Each tag has a TRACKING CARD paper clipped to it. PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME AND PHONE # ON THE TRACKING CARD AND PLACE IN THE BAG LABELED TRACKING CARDS. We need that information in case you forget to bring the gift back!!!

The gift needs to please be in the $20 - $25 range and will need to be returned EITHER next Sunday Nov. 16th or NO LATER THAN Sunday Nov. 23, 2025. RETURN UNWRAPPED. PLEASE ALSO INCLUDE WRAPPING OR A GIFT BAG. ALSO INCLUDE THE WHOLE TAG. DO NOT TAKE OFF THE GIFT SUGGESTION SECTION.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Support CUM Day School Through Benevity!

Did you know that Catalina United Methodist Day School is now listed as a cause under Catalina United Methodist Church on Benevity, a workplace giving platform used by companies such as Raytheon, American Express, Microsoft, and Intel?
Through Benevity, employees can make charitable donations that are often matched by their employer—doubling the impact! When donating, please select “Catalina United Methodist Church” (Unique Identifier: X860111427) and note that your contribution is designated for the Day School.

🌞 Our current project focuses on installing sun sails at the Trike Yard to provide more shaded play space for our children. Every gift—large or small—helps the Day School continue its mission of nurturing young learners in a safe, loving, and faith-filled environment.

Thank you for your continued support of this vital ministry that touches so many families in our community! 💛

Why invite someone to church?

An invitation to church isn’t just about Sunday morning—
It’s about sharing peace, hope, and belonging.
Your ask could change someone’s week
… or even their life!
Just lean over and say, “Come with me this Sunday.”
