Welcome Vivian: A Teen Who Chose Church for Herself!
|
This Sunday, Catalina will celebrate the baptism and confirmation of Vivian Widlak, an 11th grader at a local hybrid/remote charter school. Vivian’s journey to Catalina began earlier this year when her curiosity about faith led her to visit several churches around
|
|
|
|
|
town. After trying a very large, independent church and discovering it wasn’t quite the right fit for her, she attended her first Catalina UMC service in February—and something clicked.
|
In March, Vivian’s mom, Meghan Logan, reached out to learn more about Catalina, and Vivian expressed a desire to be baptized and join the church. What followed over the late spring into summer months was a weekly, one-on-one confirmation journey exploring Scripture, Christian history, and Methodist theology. Each week, we discussed a new lesson—journeying from Genesis to Revelation—and reflected on how faith takes shape in our everyday lives.

I believe it has been several years since Catalina last celebrated a youth confirmation, and Vivian’s journey is particularly special—born not out of expectation, but out of her own heartfelt response to God’s call. Though she has a quiet and reserved nature, Vivian's thoughtful questions and sincere faith have been a joy to witness.
|
Please hold Vivian in prayer and thanksgiving as she takes this meaningful step in her life of faith. May our congregation continue to surround her with encouragement, love, and grace as she grows in Christ!

Dia de los Muertos
There will be a Dia de los Muertos remembrance on Saturday, November 1 from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Catalina UMC. We will be assembling an alter to include pictures or small tokens of remembrance for loved ones who have passed away. We will conduct a short prayer service followed by tasty desserts. Mark your calendars for our Second Trunk or Treat! Set-up will begin at 4:30pm. Last year we had over 100 families come, so the more trunks the better! We will also be collecting candy all of September (we ran out last year!) Please donate candy by bringing it to the narthex before Oct. 17!
