Book Discussion with Pastor Mike During Lent
The book is Everything Belongs: The Gift of Contemplative Prayer by Richard Rohr, a Franciscan Priest. The book is more about the spiritual life as a whole than about a “how to” on contemplative prayer. Contemplative prayer is the practice of silence and listening. Rohr discusses the gifts that this type of prayer life can bring to the one willing to sit and wait on God in silence. We will meet at two different times starting March 5th/6th. There will be two options each week: Tuesday at 10am in person or Wednesday at 6pm by Zoom. The book can be found on Amazon.com at https://www.amazon.com/Everything-Belongs-Gift-Contemplative-Prayer/dp/0824519957. You can also check local bookstores. Please email the office at: [email protected] to let us know if you would like to be a part of the class.

Announcement for Retirement of Reverend Matt Colby
Dear Congregation of Catalina United Methodist Church,
|
The Staff Parish Relations Committee announces the June retirement of Pastor Matt Colby. We have been blessed by his faithful service as Associate Pastor over the last five years. We are grateful for his steadfast commitment to growing us in faith through the COVID Pandemic, 3 Senior Pastors, annual youth mission trips, and many life events for each of us. We will join in a celebration of his 35 years of service in ministry in June.

This year, a number of our participants have completed their 3-year assignments on the Church & Society – Missions Committee, so now we are in need of some new members. Our current outreach efforts are well defined for 2024, and our mission’s budget has been approved. This committee operates more like an ongoing “task force,” so potential committee members might anticipate no more than quarterly update meetings. Are you interested in knowing more? Please contact Doug Wingert at [email protected].

Is God calling you to service at your church?
An Introduction to Lay Servant Ministries class is being offered Saturdays, May 4th and 11th at St John's UMC in Tucson (from 9 am to 3 pm both days). Upon registration, more detailed information about the class will be provided. Registration is open at: https://dscumc.org/lay-servant-ministries-training-sessions/
|
Lay Servant Ministries is a program to educate and empower the laity to roles of leadership, caring and communications in the church and community.
|
The first class in "Introduction to Lay Servant Ministries" is offered 4-5 times a year in the conference. Also offered are Advanced Courses that cover many topics of interest in our three focus areas of leadership, caring and communications. One is allowed to take advanced courses at any time, although we do encourage the Introduction (Basic) class first. Each course is 10 hours in length and can be in 3.5 hour sessions or two 5 hour sessions (or other appropriate timeframe. This will be described in the advertisement and registration document. Attendance at all class times is mandatory for credit to be given.
|
Once the Introduction class and one Advanced course are taken, one is designated a Certified Lay Servant. An Annual report is required each Fall and is due to your church for your annual church conference which is usually held in the fall. A requirement of completing at least one Advanced Course every 3 years is also required to maintain status.
